WTF? - Vice President Biden Calls For Tax Cuts While Republicans Vote To Raise Taxes!

FYI -

Many politicians will say whatever they have to in order to get reelected.  Once their safe, it's business as usual while the American people suffer!

Senate Republicans vote to raise taxes on middle class

Sat Dec 04, 2010 at 07:33:12 AM PST

The voting isn't over yet, but nonetheless, the outcome isn't in question. (David has the backgroundon the two votes in the Senate this morning.) Republicans continue to hold their breath in order to keep billionaires happy and blow up the deficit. And get the added bonus of voting against extending unemployment benefits.
Nothing really reflects the absurdity of this debate better than this exchange from the morning's debate between Senators Schumer and Grassley. The Dems argue on facts, the Republicans argue nonsense, and will win the day. On behalf of billionaires. Against the rest of the country.
Mr. Schumer: I thank my colleague. And through the chair, I'd simply like to ask my colleague this. I understand we have a different point of view here. We both care about deficit reduction. Could he please explain to me why it is okay to take $300 billion of tax cuts for those at the highest income levels, above a million, and not pay for it and yet we have to pay for unemployment insurance ex extension?
Mr. Grassley: I thought I made that point very clear, because the taxpayers are smarter than we in Congress are. They know that they give another dollar to us to spend and it's a license to spend $1.15. So it just increases the national debt. And when it comes to paying for unemployment compensation, we can pay for unemployment compensation because the stimulus bill was supposed to stimulate the economy and it's not being spent. And if you put money from stimulus into unemployment, you don't increase the deficit and you'll also have the money spent right away.
Mr. Schumer: I would just say that the answer doesn't deal with deficit reduction. If you care about deficit reduction, the two should be treated equally. A dollar of tax break for millionaire and a dollar of increased unemployment benefits increases the deficit the same amount. However, every economist -- I saw we had a chart up about economists before -- will tell you that a dollar into unemployment benefits stimulates the economy about four times as much as a dollar into tax decreases for millionaires. That's pretty universal. Mark Zandy, John McCain's economic advisor during his campaign, said that a dollar of tax breaks for millionaires stimulates the economy about 30 cents worth. A dollar of tax -- a dollar of unemployment benefits increases the economy by about $1.62.
The fact that Republicans will be able to obstruct the Dem package today does not change any of the facts that extending the tax cuts for millionaires will continue to cost the country, dearly. Maybe instead of negotiating with the terrorists Senate Republicans, it's time for President Obama to start talking about the veto pen.
The first vote is happening now. For the highlights of the debate, check out the liveblog.

Vice President Biden: "When The GOP Tells You About Fiscal Responsibility, Laugh At Them!"

I'm not saying that the majority of Democrats are necessarily better by any means, but I am SICK AND TIRED of people consistantly voting, "party line" Republican, and swearing that it's because their candidates are fiscally responsible and fiscally conservative! In North Carolina, I wish "fiscally conservative" Richard Burr supporters would REALLY look at the Senator's voting record concerning money, taxes, trade, jobs, and the economy. You can do this by going to Congress's legislative website, THOMAS (http://www.thomas.gov). If they did, Dr. Mike Beitler would be going to the Senate!

Dear Friends,

You and I deserve leaders with principles – and the GUTS to back them up.

But that’s not usually what we get, is it?

We get mealy-mouthed politicians with their fingers in the air, searching for the political winds to know when it’s safe to take a position.

And God forbid we ask them to actually LEAD.

I’m Rand Paul, and I’m running for U.S. Senate to do just that. To lead. To take on the establishment, just like I did successfully in my primary.

To stand for strong conservative principles and to take the message of outraged Americans to Washington.

And the message I hear loud and clear coming from Americans from every stripe and party – SECURE OUR BORDERS and STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

I pledge to introduce a powerful, sweeping set of immigration reform measures, immediately upon arriving in Washington.

And then I pledge to do something you may not be used to from a United States Senator – I pledge to fight for them, and I pledge to force every single Senator to vote on them.

Will you join me in this battle to save our country? If so, read this short message and sign the Declaration of American Sovereignty and please, if you possibly can, contribute to my campaign for Senate by visiting http://www.randpaul2010.com/pledge/rpimmigration1.htm?pid=pu1

It’s vital you do. I am the ONLY US Senate candidate with a clear shot at victory who is making border security and illegal immigration a top priority.

That’s because one thing is clear: the war to control our borders has failed. Much like any failed war in the past half century, it’s because we’ve picked the wrong battles and haven’t played to win.

That will change with my first day in office. My American Sovereignty Protection Act will include:

-An end to Birthright Citizenship. If you are here illegally, and therefore not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, your children are not automatic citizens of this country and not eligible for free schooling, healthcare, welfare, and more.

-Secure Borders with a physical or electronic fence. Include satellite surveillance, and helicopter stations all across the border.

-Redeploy any unnecessary foreign military outfits to our border. We have troops in 135 countries, but we cannot seal our own borders. This is a disgrace.

-End of the special privileges of our out of control welfare state for illegal immigrants and demand proof of a person’s legal right to be in the US before granting aid and support from the taxpayer. I could not agree more with the economist Milton Friedman who said “You cannot have open borders and a welfare state.”

I’m saddened to ponder the fact that we have both. But it’s time to end that. It’s time to seal our borders and reign in our out of control government spending.

There are many in Washington – including the Obama Administration and their allies in Congress, who are pushing just the opposite approach.

They want to give AMNESTY to illegal immigrants.

They want to continue to allow people to thumb their noses at our laws, cross over our borders at will, and drain the resources of hard working Americans.

Remember, the idea that “the government” has money is a fallacy – the money that is spent on welfare state benefits for illegal immigrants is YOUR money. It is forcibly taken from each and every taxpayer.

But there’s more to this problem than simply money and doing the right thing by taxpayers.

You see, people in Washington like to pretend their doing all they can to keep you safe from the threat of terrorism.

After all – law abiding citizens routinely get full body searches at airports – so we must be safe, right? Wrong.

An open border is an open invitation to terrorists.

We all know it’s true in theory. But what should really worry all Americans is that it is no longer a theory, it’s provable fact.

Recently, news reports have highlighted the fact that terrorists have been traveling from Europe, to South America, where they learn to speak Spanish and blend in to local customs. Then they go to Mexico and sneak in with Mexican drug smugglers.

The press is not alone in their reports here -- a report in the U.S. Congress showed the exact same thing.

This 2006 report, titled "A Line in the Sand: Confronting the Threat at the Southwest Border" and prepared by the House Committee on Homeland Security Subcommittee on Investigations, indicated that 1.2 million illegal aliens were apprehended in 2005, and 165,000 of those were from countries other than Mexico.

Hundreds were from nations the Border Patrol defines as "designated by the intelligence community as countries that could export individuals that could bring harm to our country in the way of terrorism", including Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan and Yemen.

These reports also noted:

-Members of Hezbollah have been verified to have come through our southern border.

-Military clothing belonging to Islamic extremists has been found, emblazoned with patches with phrases like “martyr – way to eternal life.” One even depicted the planes flying into the World Trade Center.

-Currently, only 10-30% of potential illegal immigrants are caught. That means 70-90% make it in under our current system.

Who continues a program that fails this miserably? Our government.

It’s time to get serious. Time to get serious about national defense and terrorism. Time to get serious about our fiscal mess and stop the bleeding of taxpayer dollars on our welfare state.

Time to get serious about preserving our country before it is too late.

The best thing about much of these plans is that they can be done and ready in a very short period.

That’s good, because time is running out.

I believe we can accomplish the goal of securing our border within MONTHS, not years.

And I believe we must.

If you agree, I hope I will have your support. If you live in Kentucky, I hope you’ll consider voting for me in November and working for me between now and then.

But no matter where you live, you can help out by signing the Declaration of American Sovereignty at http://www.randpaul2010.com/pledge/rpimmigration1.htm?pid=pu1, so I can show just how widespread the support is for the ideas of Border Security and ending the practice of automatic citizenship for illegal aliens.

My opponent is a liberal trial lawyer who will not fight for our borders to be secure, and has already publicly pledged to continue to allow illegal immigrants to pillage our treasury.

But he is well funded. Powerful Washington interests and the national Democrat party have made my race their TOP target this fall. They are going all-out to make sure someone who will fight as hard as I will does NOT make it to Washington, DC.

You can help make sure they don’t succeed in keeping me out with your generous contribution of $250, $100, or $50 today after you sign the Declaration of American Sovereignty. Please visit http://www.randpaul2010.com/pledge/rpimmigration1.htm?pid=pu1

In Liberty,

Rand Paul, MD

PS: I’m a career doctor, not a career politician. I believe we need leaders with principle and the guts to take on the security of our nation. To secure our borders. To end birthright citizenship for people who are breaking our laws.

If you agree, please sign the Declaration of American Sovereignty and support my US Senate campaign today.

Why Rand Paul Will Win In Kentucky

————-
As a huge fan and supporter of Rand Paul’s father, Texas Congressman Ron Paul, I was thrilled to learn that his son was considering a U.S. Senate run for what would turn out to be an open seat in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Months ago, when Rand Paul’s U.S. Senate campaign wasn’t yet a campaign, just a fledgling exploratory committee by a “long-shot” candidate from Bowling Green, Kentucky, he still managed to win an online poll at a Kentucky news website. When I heard about that online poll at a Ron Paul message forum, I turned out with a thousand other “Paulians” and voted for Rand.

Living just an hour away from his headquarters, I had a chance not very long thereafter to meet with Rand personally, and during our conversation, someone mentioned his poll victory. Rand- with his characteristically dry sense of humor- shrugged and said that would be fantastic if he was running to win the Internet’s vote… he’d be Kentucky’s next Senator for sure.

His point was well-made. Much of Rand Paul’s early support predictably surged from young, web-savvy, libertarian-leaning activists who supported Rand’s father Ron Paul. While their support was welcome, it would have been hardly enough to get Rand Paul where he is today.

Now Rand leads all his major challengers in state-wide polls, is closing in on $3 million in funds raised, and has the endorsements of big names like Sarah Palin, Steve Forbes, and Reagan PAC. How did Rand Paul’s campaign manage to gain so much ground, putting it in striking distance of electoral victory?

Because my grandma supports him.

The secret to Rand Paul’s success is not that he resonates with people like me, but that he resonates with people like my grandmother. I’m a young, enthusiastic libertarian Republican; she’s a traditional, conservative, Reagan Republican- and Rand Paul’s message speaks to her.
Originally from Oklahoma, my grandmother has lived in the Bluegrass State now for longer than I have been alive. Her father was a staunch Democrat and all four of his children, including my grandmother, became Republicans during the Reagan years, when the two parties experienced a major realignment.

She started listening to Rush Limbaugh during the Clinton years- and still does. She loves Glenn Beck, she voted for Bush both times, and she even has a crush on Dick Cheney (but you didn’t hear it from me). She thinks and feels like most Kentucky Republicans do about what’s best for her state and what’s best for the country.
Rand was right those many months ago when he implied that kids like me who supported his father are a poor barometer for his success in Kentucky’s upcoming U.S. Senate election. It is not the Internet that will sweep him to victory, but Kentucky’s registered Republicans like my grandmother- the perfect barometer for Kentucky opinion.

The Paul family message of fiscal conservatism, strict constitutionalism, and principle over party has reached beyond the Internet and college campuses, and swept into the hearts of the people who were inspired by the Reagan revolution of the 1980s, and that’s why he will win.
Rand Paul will be the next U.S. Senator representing Kentucky. Not because I support him, but because my grandma does. And when he gets there, he may just be the one of the very best Senators this country has ever had.

Dr. Rand Paul, MD On How To Really Lower HealthCare Costs.
