FORMER LOUISIANA GOVERNOR BUDDY ROEMER:
GARY JOHNSON HAS EARNED A SPOT IN
OCTOBER'S PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES

August 2, 2012, Seattle - Buddy Roemer, a former Louisiana Governor and four-term Congressman, released a statement today, calling for Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson's inclusion in the upcoming debates.

Gov. Roemer points out that because Gov. Johnson is one of only three candidates who will likely appear on the ballot in all 50 states this November, the former New Mexico Governor's voice should be heard from the debate stage alongside President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney.

"Despite what the vested special interests, the media, and the two 'major' parties would have us believe, nowhere is it written - in the Constitution or elsewhere - that we should have only two choices for President. Especially when those two choices are basically the same choice," Roemer said in the statement. "Voters deserve the opportunity to see and hear a candidate who will offer real alternatives for this nation. Gov. Gary Johnson offers that alternative."

GOVERNOR GARY JOHNSON DESERVES TO BE HEARD IN THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES

Former Republican presidential candidate and Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer today called for Libertarian presidential nominee and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson to be included in this Fall's presidential debates.

In a statement, Roemer said, "I saw and experienced first-hand how the media and major party 'establishment' can use debate invitations to narrow the field in a presidential election. That should not be allowed to happen this Fall. Gary Johnson is a very successful two-term governor who has currently met the requirement of being on the ballot in enough states to be elected President. He must be in the Presidential debates.

"Despite what the vested special interests, the media, and the two 'major' parties would have us believe, nowhere is it written - in the Constitution or elsewhere - that we should have only two choices for President. Especially when those two choices are basically the same choice. Voters deserve the opportunity to see and hear a candidate who will offer real alternatives for this nation. Gov. Gary Johnson offers that alternative. Johnson, has the resume and record to back up what he is saying. Gov. Gary Johnson's voice deserves to be heard.

"I have gotten to know Governor Johnson over the past several months, I am convinced that he is a capable and proven leader. His message deserves to be heard, and as a fellow former governor, I have tremendous respect for his record as a chief executive. He is a leader that many Americans could easily support if only given the opportunity."

Governor Roemer is not the first well-known former governor to lend support for Johnson's inclusion in the Fall debates. Governor Jesse Ventura of Minnesota has strongly advocated for Johnson's participation and urged voters to support his candidacy.

Governor Buddy Roemer is a four-term Congressman and former Governor of Louisiana. He is currently the Chairman of The Reform Project, www.TheReformProject.org. The Reform Project is a nonpartisan, anti-corruption organization fighting both the unfair use of money in our political system and the undemocratic developments occurring in our Republic. Gov. Roemer is known for refusing PAC and special interest money, implementing campaign finance reform, turning around Louisiana's failing economy and cutting the state's unemployment rate in half in just four years.

About presidential candidate Gary Johnson: Gary Johnson, two-term governor of New Mexico from 1995-2003, has been a consistent advocate for limited, efficient government and personal liberty. Johnson switched from the Republican Party to the Libertarian Party on Dec. 28, 2011. As the Libertarian Party nominee, Johnson will appear on all 50 states' ballots. An outspoken pro-Constitution Libertarian, Johnson would end the war in Afghanistan now. He opposes the failed multi-billion dollar war on drugs and demands greater transparency at the Federal Reserve. As president, Johnson would cut federal spending by 43 percent, slash debt and make government live within its means while reducing taxes and regulation to foster real job creation and economic opportunity like he did in eight years as governor. The National Review said he was "#1" in job creation as governor. An avid skier and bicyclist, he has reached the highest peaks on four of the seven continents, including Mount Everest.
