Kucinich Cheers Passage of Bill toAudit the Federal Reserve

Washington D.C. (July 25, 2012) -- Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), cosponsor of H.R. 459, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, today congratulated the bill’s author, Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), and the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have worked together to support the legislation.
Kucinich has supported efforts to the audit the Federal Reserve for years and gained a partial audit in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform legislation. In recent days, Kucinich has spoken in video statements and repeatedly on the House Floor. He rallied support for the bill in a letter to colleagues and in a letter to Democrats calling the bill a “crossroads for the party.”
“Today is a milestone for those of us who have worked for years to demand transparency and accountability at the Federal Reserve. Despite mismanagement and secrecy which has benefited the world’s largest banks at the expense of the people, today the House of Representatives finally called for a thorough accounting of the Fed.
“We now move our energies to focus on passage in the Senate, where some have said the bill faces an uphill climb. To those folks, I say that we are on the side of history and we have the American people on our side.  Years ago, there were those who said that this bill would never pass. Today 327 Members of Congress showed that the American people stand for transparency and accountability. As more and more Americans learn about the Fed’s shadowy actions, the Senate will find it impossible to stand in the way of the demands of the American people.
“Transparency and accountability are coming to the Federal Reserve. After today’s vote, it’s only a matter of time,” said Kucinich
